Stiffness-tunable Electrode

Seamless integration between implantable electronics and brains in living animals is important for chronically stable neural signal recording. My research at Tsinghua designed a liquid metal-polymer composite with tunable stiffness under the magnetic field effect. The transformable stiffness provides self-hardening for implantation and softening after surgery. The device tackles the mechanical mismatch problem.
